Last year, we created 4,105 items using recycled materials!

It starts with piles of worn saris. Some frayed, some faded, others simply left behind. We sort through them one by one, checking for strength, for softness, for what still holds.

That’s where the work begins.

Each cut, each stitch, is done by hand. Not to hide what was, but to shape what can be.

This is slow work. Steady work. And it’s the kind of work that tells the truth. That value isn’t lost just because something has been worn. That beauty can be re-seen. That stories can keep going, if given the space.

On days like World Environment Day, that repair can be a quiet kind of resistance. And that care, for people and the planet, can be stitched in from the start.

Last month during the @wto_fairtrade WFTO Summit 2024 event in Cape Town we had the opportunity to meet incredible producers and filled with stories to share.

Maria is from @kibebe_malawi, a project that employs refugee and native artisans in Malawi to produce unique and sustainable pieces.

@jerushajn belongs to Himalayan Freedom Co, a project that has been set up as a way to combat women trafficking in Nepal by providing employment opportunities for women in precarious situations.

Now Sudarshana is from @sasha_fairtrade, a handicraft hub from India that has over 5000 artisans who work with a wide range of products ranging from fashion to home accessories and decor.
